Mrwetyana was last seen in South Africa on 30 August and was deemed a missing person. Officials said on September 3 that after confessing to murdering and raping Mrwetyana, a 42-year-old man from the Khayelitsha township in the periphery of Cape Town appeared in court.

In her country, multiple media reports claim Mrwetyana went to the Claremont post office on August 30 to ask about a package.

A spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority, Eric Ntabazalila, said Mrwetyana had been told that in the post office the authority was out and that she should return later.

Mrwetyana was told to return to the post office at 2 p.m., according to The South African. Local time, 1 p.m. closes the post office. on Saturdays.

Prosecutors think that when she returned to the post office Mrwetyana was assaulted as the suspect was there at the moment alone. In a radio interview, Ntabazalila said, “She was trying to fight back but he overcame her and she lost her life.
