One of the five fatalities in the Waukesha tragedy on Sunday was a trained nurse named Virginia Sorenson who was a member of the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies.

Virginia Sorenson, 79, Leanna Owens, 71, Tamara Durand, 52, James Coolidge, 52, and Wilhelm Hospel, 82, were the victims.

For nearly two decades, Virginia worked as a nurse and marched in the parade with the Milwaukee Dancing Grannies, a group of elderly women.

She and her husband, Dave, had been married for 56 years, and they had two grown children and six grandchildren. Virginia worked in medical records part-time.

According to the Milwaukee Journal, her husband, “What did she like about it? Everything,”

“She liked the instructing. She liked the dancing and the camaraderie of the women. She liked to perform.”

On Sunday, Virginia was reported to be helping dancers from the parking lot to the start of the route.

He added, “[She] was going to ride in the van behind the woman and be an instructor. They were short help so she offered to hold the banner going down the street. so she did that. I was at the end in the car. I was sitting in the car waiting”

Virginia loved to make new members of the grannies feel welcome, despite her weak hip and knee, Dave told the source.

Christmas Parade Attack

When Darrell Brooks, driving a maroon SUV, crashed into a throng during a parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, five people were killed and 48 were injured, including two children in critical condition, according to police.

According to police chief Dan Thompson, the suspect, Darrell Brooks, will be charged with five counts of first-degree intentional killing and other felonies.

Brooks was involved in a domestic violence situation that he was escaping moments before the catastrophe. It is “not a terrorist event,” according to authorities.
