Anthony Pidgley was born to a single mother in Surrey in 1947 and was later adopted by Barnardos. He lived his early life in a disused railcar. He worked with his parents to cut trees, and to sell logs.
In 1962, Pidgley left home and established a haulage company that he enlarged to have 40 lorries and then sold it to Crest Nicholson in 1968. He then worked 7 years for Crest Nicholson. He established Berkeley Group Holdings in 1976 which he expanded until he became one of the largest housebuilders in the UK. Specializing in executive style homes, Berkeley. He has since seen his son bid for his company.
