Julio César Rojas López best known as Tito Rojas AKA “El Gallo Salsero” was a salsa singer from Puerto Rico. He was born on June 14, 1955 in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
He was 65 years old.
He auditioned with Pedro Conga and his International Ensemble in 1975 and was recruited as a vocalist. He quit the band after a short while and joined the ‘Conjunto Borincuba’ as lead singer, conducted by Justo Betancourt.
He participated in the recording of Con Amor (With Love) with this band, which became a “hit” in 1978.

Rojas went solo in 1990 and released Sensual (1990), Condename (1992) and A Mi Estilo (At My Style) (1994), but it was his recording of Por Propio Derecho (On my own right) in 1995 that put Rojas on the hit list of Latin Billboards.
When he received a double Platinum Album Award, the Paoli Prize for “Best Salsa Artist of the Year” and an “ACE” Award, he earned the recognition he always wanted.
He also released 20th Aniversario, Alegrias y Penas and Navidad con Tito in 1999. In 1996, Rojas had hits with Humildemente (Humbly) and Pal’ Pueblo (For my town).
Rojas died after suffering a heart attack on December 26, 2020, at the age of 65.
