In several Spike Lee films, including Clockers, Get on the Bus, Bamboozled, Red Hook Season, and Chi-Raq, Byrd appeared.

Director Spike Lee revealed on Instagram on Sunday that actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd was murdered on Saturday night in Atlanta, Georgia. The manager, who had worked on several films with Byrd, wrote, “Announce The Tragic Murder Of Our Beloved Brother Thomas Jefferson Byrd Last Night In Atlanta, Georgia. Tom Is My Guy, Here Below You See Him As The Frightening Character Errol Barnes In CLOCKERS. Brother Byrd Also Did His Thang In My Joints- CHI-RAQ, SWEET BLOOD OF JESUS, RED HOOK”
Officials said he died of multiple bullet wounds to the back and an investigation is pending. TMZ said the Atlanta Police Department responded at 1:45 a.m. to a call reporting an injured person. Byrd was found with several gunshot injuries to his back, according to the outlet, and was unresponsive. He was declared dead by first services. An investigation, the outlet notes, is pending.
