He was 81 years old.
Shirley Devine is the wife of Sydney Devine. He lived with his wife in Ayr.
His career started at the age of thirteen with a television appearance in 1953, produced during eight years of touring with the White Heather Party. He heard the Hawaiian singer Don Ho play Tiny Bubbles when he toured Hawaii with Andy Stewart’s band, which became Devine’s signature tune and he went on to sell fifteen million records.
In December 2005, when a frothy drink making machine was marketed on television using Don Ho’s version of Tiny Bubbles, his record sales were revived.
He received an MBE in 2010 in recognition of his accomplishments. More recently, with a lifetime achievement reward, he was recognized by the Scottish Music Hall Society.
He continued to release albums and also performed at Glasgow’s Pavilion Theatre for a series of shows annually.
After being rushed to the Ayr Hospital in Scotland on January 23, the Country and Western singer had been battling a mystery illness.

He, unfortunately, died on Saturday, 13 February 2021. In a statement released by Karen, daughter of Mr. Devine’s, she says: “My dad took unwell at home and Dad knew it was a bit more serious than a normal chest infection, after calling an ambulance and being admitted into Ayr Hospital on January 23.”
“The doctors tried everything they could and battled non-stop to save my dad, and my dad fought the illness with great dignity and with everything he had, but the illness took hold of him.”
Ach, Sydney Devine. I introduced him onstage at the Commonwealth Games on Glasgow Green in 2014 (to the strains of Also sprach Zarathustra, of course). It was midday, and torrential rain, but the crowd went absolutely wild. I’ve never, ever seen a more adoring mob of baying fans. pic.twitter.com/IIG86bJOud
