Tennant and Lasnet announced in August 2020 that they had split.
In 1993, Tennant sent a high-fashion magazine with photographs of herself, and a friend introduced her to fashion writer Plum Sykes (Victoria Rowland). She got her nasal septum drilled recently, which at the time was an uncommon look for models. She was then used by Meisel on the Italian Vogue cover.
She also became a favorite of some of the 1990s‘ most prominent fashion photographers, including Mario Testino, David Sims, and Mark Borthwick, embodying the edgy, waifish insouciance that served during that decade as one of the defining characteristics of fashion photography.
Soon after, Tennant was revealed by Karl Lagerfeld as Chanel’s new face, with an exclusive deal. He is claimed to have felt that Coco Chanel was reminiscent of her. Priya Elan, writing in her Guardian obituary, credits her with having “introduced an era of androgyny on the catwalk” along with Kate Moss and Erin O’Connor.
Tennant and Lady Isabella Cawdor launched a new ready-to-wear line in 2016 that they designed for Holland & Holland, a gunmaker and clothing retailer. She continued to sculpt and operated a luxury homewares business, Tennant & Tennant, with her sister, a gilder.
On 22 December 2020, Tennant died suddenly, at the age of 50. Her family announced her “sudden” death this afternoon in a statement, “It is with great sadness we announce the sudden death of Stella Tennant. Stella was a wonderful woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed,”
They wrote in a statement, adding that at a later date, plans for a memorial service would be disclosed.
A familiar face from 90s. #StellaTennant I remember I liked this photo when I saw first. Those kids lost their mother now.

💔#RestinPeace #RIP the model who owned the #Androgyny movement in #Fashion . Yet delicate feminine and carried an inner strength. Saw her just once in person waiting for the No 9 on High St Ken as i was getting off the same. Too soon to go #StellaTennant . pic.twitter.com/9qHiGlY2EU
