In her salon window, Sinead Quinn, of Quinn Blakey Hairdressers in Oakenshaw, near Bradford, displayed a sign referencing the Magna Carta. Today in Oakenshaw, Kirklees Council officers visited Quinn Blakey’s salon and learned that the company was open and selling.

For consistently breaching lockout rules, she is now facing fines worth £27,000.

The Kirklees Council spokesperson said today that the salon opened on Saturday, Monday, and today.

It said: “The business was open and trading again so they have been issued with a further £10,000 fine which means the total is now £27,000.”

The spokesman said that in relation to the salon, the council was in the process of exploring alternative action.

Today, Kirklees Council denounced the business owner’s actions as “selfish and irresponsible.”

Ms. Quinn shared videos on Instagram earlier this month showing her arguing with council members who had visited her salon to see if it met with the regulations.

She told officials in one video that she did not agree’ to be fine and cited ‘common law’. In defense of her decision to keep trading, she had previously posted a sign on the salon door which quoted Magna Carta.

After initially telling Yorkshire Live that she was not breaking the rule, Ms. Quinn refused to comment further.

Kirklees and Bradford have among the highest coronavirus infection rates in England, according to the latest official statistics.

With a rate of 446.4 cases per 100,000 individuals in the seven days to November 19, Kirklees has the eleventh highest Covid-19 rate.

With a rate of 439.3 per 100,000 people in the same period, Bradford came in twelfth.
