Charged In Death Of His 1-Month-Old Baby
According to the newspapers, Racine police and rescue crews rushed to the home on Feb. 14 after receiving a call of an unresponsive child.
The authorities arrived to find the dead baby and a 1-year-old boy with a swollen, wounded eye, as stated by the outlets.
Powell and the mother of the children, 18-year-old Javian Clark, told police that they had been the only baby caregivers for the past eight days, authorities said.
The Journal Times confirmed that medical examiners later performed an autopsy on the child, who had suffered blunt-force trauma to the head, chest, and extremities.
Officials concluded that, according to the journal, the death was a suicide.
Powell was arrested on $50,000 bail and remains jailed, authorities said.
According to the Journal Times, court records have listed Clark as a co-defendant. As District Attorney Tricia Hanson told the newspaper, she is likely to be charged Tuesday.
