Who Killed Cop ‘Shane Bartek’?
According to Fox 8 News, two suspects, a 28-year-old man, and an 18-year-old woman were in custody by Saturday morning. According to sources, both have lengthy criminal records for theft, robbery, and burglary.
The male suspect approached Bartek in an apartment complex parking lot in southwest Cleveland around 6 p.m. Friday, police said, brandishing a revolver.
Bartek was shot twice after a scuffle, and the assailant fled in the officer’s vehicle.
Bartek worked as a patrol officer in the city’s northeastern 5th District. Bartek’s carjacking was the most recent in a string of violent carjackings in Ohio’s second-largest city.
Late Friday, incoming Cleveland Police Chief Wayne Drummond remarked, “My heart is aching for the family, for our officers,”
“Senseless. It just doesn’t make any sense.”
As Bartek’s body was transported from Fairview Hospital to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office early Saturday, somber police from surrounding departments lined the streets.
