On the wanted poster, the US Marshals Service warns that McLeod is “armed and dangerous.” He was described as an “avid bodybuilder” who also drank excessively.
McLeod weighed around 245 pounds at the time of Mitchell’s death. He has brown hair and hazel eyes and stands 5’11” tall. According to investigators, McLeod can go by the names “Matt” or “Mateo.” They even believe he grew a beard to conceal himself even further.
His tattoos, however, are said to be distinguishable by investigators. Tattoos of skeletons, various words, and phrases cover McLeod’s chest and sides.
He is 37 years old.
San Diego Murder Full Details
According to Military.com, the couple was visiting a friend of McLeod’s who was married and had a child. On June 10, 2016, a friend discovered Mitchell’s body in the guestroom and called 911, according to the outlet.
Emergency workers received a call about a “woman not breathing in an apartment,” according to investigators. Mitchell was declared dead on the spot. There was evidence of a struggle, according to investigators.
Josephine Wentzel, Mitchell’s mother, told KNXV-TV that her daughter had been strangled. Wentzel told the outlet, “Talking to the coroner, all I want to know is, did my daughter suffer? Did she fight back,”
“She was just taken away and slaughtered. It was just so wrong.”
Wentzel told KNXV-TV nearly a year after Mitchell’s death that she had no doubt McLeod had murdered her daughter. “I have no doubt in my mind that he will kill once more. Because this guy has no morals, he would go after my daughter if he hasn’t already.”
Following Mitchell’s death, a warrant was released for McLeod’s arrest. Investigators found that McLeod was the last person to see Mitchell alive, according to the US Marshals Service.
Investigators suspect McLeod fled to Mexico immediately after Mitchell’s murder, according to the Marshals Service. Witnesses claimed to have seen him in Guatemala in 2017 and Belize in 2018.
