How Did Norm Macdonald Die?
Macdonald died nine years after being diagnosed with cancer on September 14, 2021. Prior to his death, his cancer had not been revealed.
The death of the former Weekend Update host was confirmed by his management team at Brillstein Entertainment to Deadline.
Lori Jo Hoekstra, a friend of McDonald’s who was with him when he died, claimed the performer had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was trying to keep his battle hidden from his family, friends, and fans. Hoekstra said, “He was most proud of his comedy,”
“He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”
