Who was Mohammad Anwar?

On Tuesday, March 23, two teen girls, one 13, from Southeast DC and the other 15, from Fort Washington, Maryland, were arrested on charges of murdering an Uber Eats driver, according to police.

Mohammad Anwar was killed when the girls attempted to carjack him near Nationals Park with a stun gun, according to reports. The police have not released the names of the two teenage girls detained in the case.

The two girls were brought to the Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide division for processing after being arrested on felony murder and carjacking charges, according to police records released on Wednesday, March 24.

According to initial sources, Anwar of Springfield, Virginia, was a Pakistani immigrant who arrived in the United States in 2014. He was driving for Uber Eats in the Navy Yard neighborhood of DC when he was assaulted with a stun gun and his car crashed.

According to reports, he was a father and grandfather. Anwar leaves behind a wife and two adult children in the United States, as well as four grandchildren in Pakistan.

Anwar’s car crashed and flipped over in the park, according to law enforcement sources, when the teenage girls in his car attempted an armed carjacking.

At the time of the murder, he was said to be driving a gray sedan in the 1200 block of Van Street SE, about a block north of National Park. Around 4:30 p.m., the police arrive to find the unconscious man on the pavement. Medics took him to the hospital right away, where he was pronounced dead.

The two teenagers were reportedly rescued from the flipped car by two National Guard soldiers. They were also treated for injuries sustained in the crash before being arrested. Pamela Johnson, one of the witnesses, said she “couldn’t believe her eyes.” In a quote, she said, “I saw all the police cars first. Then I saw the car, and I thought, ‘This must be a movie scene or something.'”

She added, “I think that people do need to be brought to justice and that they have to stand for what they did and be accountable for their actions because someone died,”
