Who is Michael Wolf Snyder? Michael Wolf Snyder Bio/Wiki
According to a Facebook post from his aunt, Michael Wolf Snyder, the sound mixer for a variety of films, including Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland and The Rider, committed suicide.
He was 35 years old.
Michael Snyder began his career in 2011 with Henry Miller’s Occupant, working in a variety of sound positions, including boom operator, location sound director, and sound mixer.
Jodie’s Way, a short film about a trans-curious high schooler who has a run-in with the local mean girls, was written, made, and mixed by him in 2014.
As a boom operator and sound mixer, he joined Chloé Zhao’s The Rider team in 2017. Brady Jandreau, Tim Jandreau, and Lilly Jandreau star in the film, which is part of Zhao’s trilogy about being dispossessed and left behind in the modern American West.
Zhao’s drama follows a teenage cowboy in search of a new identity in America’s heartland.
Snyder reunited with Zhao for her Francis McDormand-starrer Nomadland two years later. Snyder’s work as a sound mixer for the film added atmospheric echoes of America’s natural environments to the story about modern-day nomads.
Snyder’s aunt, Cathy, posted a Facebook message from her brother’s father, David Michael, confirming his son’s death. According to Snyder’s article, Michael committed suicide last week after suffering from depression for several years.
The message read, “Michael took his own life sometime in the last week and wasn’t discovered until I went to check on him Monday after he had dropped out of contact for several days. He has suffered from Major Depression for many years. For most people, this is an illness that waxes and wanes over the years. I’m sure it was difficult for Michael that he spent most of the last year alone in his small, Queens apartment, being responsible about dealing with the coronavirus. In spite of this, we all believed he was doing well, and for most of this past year I think he was. He seemed especially joyful and invigorated in these last few months since he was able to return to work on several different film projects. He was certainly thrilled about all of the accolades for Nomadland and told us many happy stories about his work on the film and the amazing people he got to spend time with. Unfortunately, we believe he was gone before getting to see the Golden Globe awards.”
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that”.
This last year has been so dark. And even more dark for…
