A video of a New Jersey middle school vice principal named Michael Smurro throwing his beer at a group of restaurant patrons who had filmed his wife ranting about a transgender woman using the women’s restroom was captured on camera.
The hate-filled video shows Michael Smurro, vice-principal of Neptune Middle School, arguing with customers at Ethel’s Lantern Light Restaurant and Tavern in Smithville on Saturday, where his partner, Lisa, took issue with a transgender woman in the women’s bathroom.
In the video, Lisa Smurro is seen telling an employee, “She’s a man, she was in the woman’s bathroom,” “She’s a man.”
Smurro is then asked to take her “hate” somewhere else by a woman sitting outside, who claims she was being disrespectful in front of other customers, including children.
Her age is unknown.

Michael is Lisa’s husband, the woman who made the transphobic remarks. “She’s a man, she was in the woman’s bathroom,” Lisa was overheard saying. “She’s a man,” she said to the employee as well.
Lisa continues, in answer to the diner who told her to take her anger elsewhere: “How are you OK with this?” she asked, holding her beer in her hand. “What is the matter with everyone?”
Michael, dressed in a superman t-shirt and a cap, approaches the woman filming his wife at this point and tosses his beer on her. “Here you go, pal,” he then says. After that, he snarls, “There you go. There you go.”
He is the vice-principal of Neptune Middle School, and after tossing the beer, he attempted to approach the man who was seated with the woman diner who had captured Lisa’s rant. He said, “Now you can come out, now you can come out, come on,”
He added, “That’s what I thought, as soon we went there, you’d be zero. That’s what I thought. I’m right here.”
Following this, another diner at the restaurant alleged that Michael had assaulted them and encouraged passers-by to call the police. NY Post saying, “She literally just started going off, loud as hell, without cause.”
This lady, who only went by the name Carrie, explained, “It was overall a completely disgusting experience.”
She then said, “[Michael Smurro] assaulted a table with a child at it. He should not be working with children. His wife should especially be far, far away from children.”
The Neptune Township School District is investigating this incident, according to district officials.
This incident is disturbing because its interpretation undermines the social-emotional well-being and atmosphere of belonging that our Neptune School District group serves,” Superintendent Dr. Tami Crader said, adding that administrators are “taking this matter seriously.”
Michael has also issued an apology, apologizing for allowing his emotions to get the best of him. He said, “I do not condone violence or discrimination of any kind and should have simply walked away,”
He added, “I apologize to the person I threw my beer at and wish I hadn’t done so. I apologize to anyone I offended.”
