After an 11-month-old girl named Mercedes Lain was discovered dead in a wooded area in Indiana, her parents and babysitter were prosecuted.
According to a Silver Alert issued by police, Mercedes Lain was reported missing after being last seen Saturday in Mishawaka with Justin Lee Miller. Miller, as well as his parents Kenneth Lain and Tiffany Coburn, were arrested on Wednesday, according to a press conference held by The Goshen News on Thursday.
She was just 11-month-old.
After refusing to participate in the search for the baby, Lain, 41, and Coburn, 32, were charged with neglect of a dependent on Monday, while Miller, 37, was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death, according to police.
Miller is a family acquaintance who has been babysitting the child for a few days. Nelson Chipman, Marshall County’s Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, said, “The search for Mercedes Lain, 11-months-old, ended at approximately 9:30 p.m. in a remote, obscure, densely forested area,”
Our sincerest thank you to everyone who helped in the search for 11 month old Mercedes Lain, or called in tips. Sadly, she was found deceased in a wooded area in Starke County last night.
