York grew up in Ohio and attended Arcanum High School. He was persuaded to move to California to pursue a career in acting after graduating from Anderson University with three majors.
The singer, who is a big fan of TV and movies, landed a series of TV roles on shows like “CSI: NY” and “8 Simple Rules.” In Steven Spielberg’s “A.I. Artificial Intelligence,” he also had an uncredited role. As Michael Scott (Steve Carrell) brings him into the office for a disability-awareness meeting during the second season of “The Office,” the actor makes his first appearance as Billy Merchant.
Billy was the property manager of the Scranton Business Park until it was purchased by Dwight (Rainn Wilson) at the end of the sixth season. York is survived by his mother Becky, father Glenn, three brothers Brian, Jeff, and David, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends.
