Mark Samsel is a Kansas politician who currently serves in the Kansas House of Representatives. Samsel was born in Wellsville, Kansas and attended Wellsville High School in Wellsville, Kansas.

He attended Missouri Valley College from 2003 to 2007 and earned a degree in political science, public administration, and business administration. He also attended the University of Kansas School of Law from 2007 to 2010, earning a Juris Doctor.

Samsel assaulted a high school student while serving as a substitute teacher on April 30, 2021, and was arrested for battery. The Kansas Republican was caught on tape making remarks about a student who had gay foster parents, questioning students about their masturbation habits, and insisting that they procreate.

Jessica Roberts, a mother of two children at the academy, expressed concern about Samsel’s participation in youth sports and activities.


After getting into a physical altercation with a student in one of the classes where he was teaching, Samsel was arrested on misdemeanor battery charges.

On Thursday, he was arrested and booked into the Franklin County Adult Detention Center. Sheriff Jeff Richards said he was released after posting a $1,000 bond.
