On Friday, Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Manny Caulk died suddenly. He was 49 years old.

A cause of death was not mentioned in Spires‘ message and she told the Herald-Leader early Saturday morning she had no further information.
In Portland, Maine, Caulk was formerly a superintendent and an assistant superintendent in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In Louisiana, he has served in a school district and in juvenile corrections. He also has a doctorate of law and a master’s degree in education, according to LinkedIn.

Age
He was 49 years old.
Medical Condition
For some days, Caulk was on medical leave. Last week, Spires declared his departure but gave no details about his medical condition.
Caulk was absent from the monthly school board meeting on November 23, but ten days ago, he had appeared at a virtual school board meeting.
Caulk underwent an 18-hour procedure to remove a malignant tumor from his sinus cavity in 2015, soon after he was hired.
Career

In 2018, Caulk was named Superintendent of the Year by the Kentucky Association for School Administrators.

In 2015, Caulk took over as FCPS Superintendent. Caulk previously served as superintendent of Portland Public Schools, the largest school district in Maine, from 2012 before taking the superintendent position with FCPS, according to his profile on FCPS.net.

In the Philadelphia School System, he was formerly an assistant superintendent, representing 167,000 students. He was also assistant regional superintendent and deputy chief for the education and leadership support office and was assistant superintendent of the 46,000-student East Baton Rouge Parish School System for high schools.

Death Cause
In a letter to families just before midnight Friday, Fayette Superintendent Manny Caulk died, school board chairwoman Stephanie Spires said.
The news came from Fayette County Board of Education Chair Stephanie Spires in a letter to families, according to WKYT. She wrote, “Tonight, I write with a heavy heart to inform you of the death of our Superintendent, Emmanuel Caulk, who has led our district since 2015,”
Spires wrote, “We are grateful for Manny’s servant leadership and passion for our two moral imperatives – to accelerate achievement for students who have not yet reached proficiency and to challenge students already proficient to achieve global competency,”
There was an unexpected death. They did not announce the cause of death. According to Kentucky.com, however, it is not known if the ailment was published before his death.
Spires added, “We ask that you keep Manny, his family, and everyone who loved him in your thoughts and prayers, while also respecting their privacy during this incredibly difficult time. Arrangements to honor his life and work are incomplete at this time, but will be sent out to our FCPS Family when finalized,”
