Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is a Canadian actress from Mississauga, Ontario. She was born in 2001 or 2002. In the upcoming Netflix show “Never Have I Ever,” she stars as Devi’s leading character. Mindy Kaling selected her out of 15,000 applicants who applied for an open casting call for the series. Ramakrishnan’s casting received considerable media attention, especially in Canada, both because of the existence of the open casting call, and because of her Tamil Canadian identity. Today in 2019 called her one of eighteen “Groundbreakers,” a group of girls who broke down barriers and changed the world. Her success in the show received favorable feedback, with Variety saying it was a “breakout performance”.

Ramakrishnan is of Tamil descent from Sri Lanka, with her family coming to Canada as refugees after the civil war in Sri Lanka, and because of this Ramakrishnan identifies as Tamil and Canadian, but does not identify as Sri Lankan.
