Authorities have charged a former caretaker named Lisa Daugherty at an Alabama assisted living facility with stealing 9 million Dollars from a resident.

Lisa Daugherty, a care worker at Oak Landing Assisted Living in Attalla, was arrested on two counts of financial exploitation of the elderly on Wednesday. She is accused of victimizing a previous resident there.


She is 54 years old.

Stealing 9 Million Dollars Full Details

Daugherty is charged with stealing $8 million in cash from the victim, as well as $1 million in real estate, according to the state’s attorney general, Steve Marshall.

Brooke Crawford, Daugherty’s 35-year-old daughter, and Jerenita Johnson, 52, Daugherty’s former partner, were both charged with handling stolen property totaling $600,000.


Marshall’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit was tasked with investigating a referral from the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama.

According to a statement released by Marshall’s office on Wednesday, “No further information about the investigation or the defendants’ alleged crimes other than stated in the warrants may be released at this time,”


Prosecutors said Daugherty was arrested and charged with two charges of financial exploitation of the elderly. One count represents $8 million in currency, while the other represents $1 million in real estate.

She was remanded in custody after posting a $1 million bond. She faces up to 20 years in jail and a $30,000 fine if convicted on each count.

Who is The Victim?

The identity of Daugherty’s alleged victim has not been revealed.

Daugherty was mentioned in a four-count federal indictment in 2019, but the case was later dismissed, according to court records obtained by AL.com. Daugherty obtained power of attorney from the victim before arranging a relocation to Oak Landing, according to court filings.

In January 2017, she allegedly began moving the victim’s assets to herself, eventually purchasing a home, various holiday homes, cars, and paying for her daily living expenses, according to authorities.
