After court documents say her boyfriend tried to steal a political sign, Kamran Cohee was shot and killed Saturday. After a mortal confrontation over a political sign in Skagit County, a woman is charged with second-degree murder.
Angela Conijn is charged with the death of Kamran Cohee, just east of Mount Vernon, outside Conijn’s home in the Big Lake area.
Her attorney said the shooting was in self-defense at Conijn’s first court appearance Wednesday, but the victim’s boyfriend denies that claim.
After sledding Saturday, when they pulled off on Big Lake Road in Mount Vernon, Tryon said he and Cohee were driving home, letting some air out of their tires to help navigate the snow.
Joshua Tryon said, “I can’t believe this is happening, I just want to wake up from this nightmare,”

Conijn and her husband, John, saw Tryon taking the sign and confronted the couple, according to court documents. At Wednesday’s court appearance, Conijn was wearing a sling on her arm. Her lawyer claimed that she had to be released without bail.
