Who is Joseph William McDonald? Joseph William McDonald Bio/Wiki
A gaming addict who suffered from problems of anger management has confessed to murdering his own son in a fit of rage.
Joseph William McDonald, 23, pleaded guilty to one count of Victoria Supreme Court child murder on Friday. His newborn boy, Lucas, was unable to survive when on October 24 last year, he suffered a serious head injury at his home in Benalla, northeast of Victoria.
He is 23 years old. And the baby was 7 weeks old.
Killing His Own Son Full Details
On Friday, the court heard that he had a fit of rage and lashed out at his newborn, the paper notes, while in the middle of a PlayStation game.
McDonald, who initially denied killing his son according to local sources, allegedly texted his partner Samatha Duckmanton saying he was the worst father and “worst partner” just weeks before the fatal attack. On the day that her son was murdered, Ms. Duckmanton was in the kitchen while Lucas was in the sitting room with his dad.
She heard her baby wailing and he responded that he was “swaddling him” when she asked McDonald what the sound was the paper notes.
His mother believed that the high-pitched scream of her child was due to the vaccines he had received the same morning, as he had rejected milk. But the condition of Lucas didn’t change overnight, so he was taken to the A&E department of Benalla hospital by the concerned mother.
What Happened To The Baby (Lucas)
The baby was then moved to Monash Children’s Hospital, but five days later he died there.
After doctors advised her the baby’s death was unlikely to have been an accident, the grieving mother approached her partner.
He answered that before fleeing and sparking a state-wide manhunt, he had pulled too hard on the back of the child’s brain stem.
Police attorney Mark Gibson told the court that the injuries meant that the head of the baby was bashed against an obstacle or that McDonald had struck him hard in the head.
On Friday, the court heard how McDonald checked online for anger management therapies in the weeks prior to the fatal attack.
In a victim impact statement read out in court, Lucas’s mother explained how she “instantly fell in love” with her boy.
McDonald’s address, she said: “Lucas deserved to feel safe and protected by his daddy.
“You do not deserve forgiveness — nor do you deserve the title of daddy.”
At Victoria Supreme Court, McDonald pleaded guilty to child murder.
