Jonshel Alexander Bio/Wiki
Jonshel Alexander, a former child actress who starred in the Oscar-nominated 2012 film Beasts of the Southern Wild, was reportedly shot and died over the weekend in Louisiana.
According to the Associated Press, Alexander was in a car with a man in New Orleans’ 7th ward at 9 p.m. on Saturday when an assailant allegedly shot them both.
She was 22 years old.
Alexander made her acting debut at the age of 12 in the Oscar-nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild, in which she played Joy Strong, a destitute Louisiana bayou hamlet fighting to make ends meet.
After she was too old to portray Hushpuppy, he put her in a supporting role.
How Did Cause Of Death Die?
Alexander was in a car with an unidentified man when gunfire went out, killing her and causing the man to rush to the hospital for treatment, according to New Orleans police.
At the scene, she was pronounced deceased. The man and the suspect have not been identified by the police.
The motivation for the shooting has also remained unknown.
Mom The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate quoted Shelly Alexander as saying, “Jonshel was feisty, jazzy spoiled. It was her way or no way. Jonshel was like ‘It’s going to be me’.”
We are deeply saddened by this news. 💔
