Arrested in France Full Details

On 16 December 2020, as he was about to board a flight to Dakar, in Senegal, Brunel was intercepted by police at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. He was then placed for questioning under ‘garde Ă  vue’ detention.

He is being held in connection with rape, sexual harassment, criminal conspiracy, and trafficking in human beings, and minors are implicated in all the charges. In interviews with French prosecutors, Thysia Huisman was a former Dutch model and one of many women who accused Brunel of sexual harassment. When she heard of his arrest, the Associated Press reported, she cried “tears of joy.” Huisman revealed to police that when she was 18 years old, Brunel drugged her and raped her in 1991.

While she acknowledges that Brunel is technically liable for the statute of limitations, she hoped that talking to authorities would inspire others to come forward.
