Tragically, a Courageous nurse who lost both her legs and an arm to sepsis was discovered hanged, an inquiry heard today. When she experienced sepsis four years ago while recovering from a simple cough, Jayne Carpenter was left with only one limb.

In May 2016, when her cough transformed into deadly sepsis, she was admitted to intensive care – which kills over 30,000 individuals per year in the UK.
Jayne was in a coma for nine weeks and her husband was advised that to survive, she would require multiple amputations.

She was 53 years old.
Found Hanged Details
Her husband, Rob, found her body when he returned to the couple’s home in Williamstown late on Monday afternoon at around 4.30 pm. The last time he talked on the phone to Jayne was earlier that day after she called him to ask him to pick up the puppy.

Rachel Knight, the assistant coroner for South Wales Central, learned how Mr. Carpenter found his 20-year-old wife with a ligature around her neck upon entering the building.
Husband

During her life-threatening struggle with sepsis in May 2016 and the subsequent amputation of three of her limbs, Mr. Carpenter gave his wife unwavering support. Jayne had dedicated her life over the past three years to campaigning to raise awareness of the disorder and thanked her husband for helping her through her rehabilitation, saying she “couldn’t have asked for anyone more supportive”
Mr. Carpenter posted a photograph of Jayne on Facebook on Tuesday and wrote: “The brightest star in my sky has burnt out”.

Many of those who knew Jayne posted social media tributes, describing her as inspiring, lovely and kind, with TV presenter Andrea Byrne posting on Twitter: “I met Jayne a couple of years ago and filmed with her last year. We’d kept in touch since. She was truly amazing.”
