Jasmine Melendez was a 15-year-old Midland, Texas girl who died on Tuesday after being beaten and sexually abused, her family said. NewsWest9 confirmed that family members said that on Tuesday, Melendez was “sexually abused and battered” and flown to a Dallas hospital where she later died.
It’s obvious that many loved her. Jasmine Melendez was a huge part of the Midland softball culture. A lot of her time was spent at the M.U.G.S. Softball Complex. The people who knew her best say that, while her family claims she died in a tragic way, they will remember who she was as a person.
She was 15 years old.
Melendez Dumped On A Yard
According to family members, CBS7 first confirmed that Melendez was found “dumped in a yard” and had sustained a significant brain injury and had fluid in her brain. The outlet also confirmed that in the hospital, the teenager suffered a heart attack and died. Most information about the unfortunate incident has not been released by the authorities and there is no news on the suspects.

On Thursday, the Midland authorities released a statement suggesting that the Midland Police Department was investigating a case involving a juvenile, but did not offer any additional details. As given to CBS7, the statement reads: “The Midland Fire Department responded to a call for medical assistance on October 20, 2020, and due to the nature of the call, involving a juvenile, asked the Midland Police Department for assistance. The MPD responded and an investigation is ongoing.”

During a press conference on Thursday, the Midland Independent School District talked about the situation but offered no further information about Melendez’s death. A question about a student was posed about 37 minutes into the press conference. “allegedly assaulted near [Midland High School], she was sent to the Metroplex and died.”
Dr. Katie Atkins, chief of staff of the district, replied: “I don’t have further information on that unfortunate situation, absolutely tragic situation, our hearts and our sympathies are certainly with that family. I don’t have further information to share with this group at this time.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Jasmine Melendez, 15, was targeted. She was rushed to a Dallas hospital, where she died from her injuries.
