According to a report released Monday, a cop named Gunther Hashida who was on duty when an angry mob stormed the US Capitol on Jan. 6 committed suicide, making him the third responding officer to commit suicide.

Officer Gunther Hashida, who joined the DC police department in 2003, died last week, according to the agency.

He was 44 years old.

Kristen Metzger, a department spokesperson, told CNN, “Officer Gunther Hashida, assigned to the Emergency Response Team within the Special Operations Division, was found deceased in his residence on Thursday, July 29th,”

Hashida murdered himself for reasons unknown, and his family has not linked his death to the insurgency.

According to CNN, he was the third cop defending the Capitol that day to commit suicide.

Elaine Luria, a Democrat from Virginia, posted on Twitter, “My heart goes out to the family of MPD Officer Hashida in this difficult time,”

“We know the pain of January 6 is still real for so many officers.”

Wife And Family

Romelia Hashida is the wife of Gunther Hashida. They were married in 2004. After her husband’s death on August 1, 2021, Romelia posted a photo on Facebook.

Gunther was seen with his arm around his wife and Romelia, and the shot was captioned with Hayley Foster’s poem “I Only Wanted You.”

Hashida leaves behind a beloved wife, sister, three children, and a great family, according to a GoFundMe campaign established up by his family.

The family does not relate Hashida’s death to the disturbances in the post. The family said, “In his work as an officer with the DC Metropolitan Police Department he worked to serve and protect the public,”

“He was a devoted husband and father.”

Hashida’s family established a GoFundMe campaign for his memorial, which has raised more than $50,000.
