Who was Colorado Cop Gordon Beesley?

Officer Gordon Beesley of the Arvada Police Department in Colorado was slain on June 21 following a standoff.

Around 1:15 p.m., Beesley was responding to a “suspicious event” in the Olde Town neighborhood when he came across the shooter. Beesley and the gunman, as well as an innocent bystander, died as a result of the standoff. The assassination of Beesley came amid a wave of attacks on cops across the United States. On June 1, a homeless guy was observed attacking a San Francisco cop, who was eventually able to subdue and capture the man thanks to the assistance of bystanders.

A gang member attacked NYPD officer Nathaly Gomez Iglesias at her house the same day. Officer Billy Evans of the US Capitol Police was killed in the line of duty on April 3. Cops are in more danger than ever before, with societies and politicians in the United States divided on the purpose of police forces.

336 cops were killed in the line of duty in 2020, while 154 have died so far in 2021. Officer Beesley joins them following a “targeted” encounter, according to the Arvada Police Department.

He was 51 years old.

The shooter’s identity has yet to be revealed by the Arvada Police Department. Arvada Police Chief Link Strate confirmed Beesley was the victim of the incident during a press conference, along with a passerby identified as John Hurley of Golden.

He did not name the shooter, though, citing the continuing investigation. Strate said, “While we don’t yet have all the facts, I can tell you that Gordon was targeted because he was wearing an Arvada Police uniform and a badge,”

He added, “Officer Beesley was ambushed by a person who expressed hatred of police officers.”

Strate could not disclose any other details but did state that the suspect’s name would be released soon by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. It is still unknown if the man had previously targeted police officers.

According to reports, the Arvada Police Department will launch a criminal investigation into the shooter’s activities, with assistance from state and federal authorities.

A second investigation will be launched, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader, to see if police processes were followed appropriately. Both investigations are now in their early phases, with police still gathering evidence from the site and witness testimony. Beesley, a 19-year member of the Arvada Police Department, was shot while responding to an incident near the Arvada Library. Several people called 911 about 1.30 p.m. to report gunshots and one officer down.
