A Maryland woman named Gail Metwally was caught on dramatic video looking as calm as a cucumber in a lawn chair as her house slowly burned down fire police say she set when everyone else was inside.

Gail Metwally, who is facing attempted murder and other charges, was captured on camera sitting with a book on her lap as her Elkton home burned down.


She is 47 years old.

Allegedly Torching Her Home Full Details

“She just f–king lit the trash can on fire!” As the flames spread inside, an unidentified man narrates the video.

“Oh, my f–king God, this is not happening right now! She lit the f–king house! Oh my God! I cannot actually believe my eyes. I cannot actually believe it, and she’s sitting there just chillin’ — watching the house go up flames!”

He continues: “Like yeah, I’m watching the s–t go down! Oh, my God, this is, this is now turned into a serious, serious thing!”

The conflagration engulfs the entire building moments later, spewing dense clouds of smoke as approaching firetrucks’ sirens blare in the distance. Witnesses who heard a woman crying from the basement ran toward the fire and assisted her in escaping, according to the Delaware News Journal.

Metwally was one of the home’s four tenants. According to fire authorities, two others were not in the building when it was set on fire at about 1 p.m. Thursday.

Arrested And Charges

According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, deputies from the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office arrested the suspected firebug near the scene.

She was accused of lighting several fires inside the house before strolling outside and sitting in a chair to admire her work before leaving. Metwally was charged with attempted murder in the first and second degrees, arson in the first degree, assault in the first degree, two counts of malicious burning, two counts of malicious destruction of property, and two counts of reckless endangerment.

She was being held in the Cecil County Detention Center awaiting a trial in District Court.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, and her relationship with the woman who was saved is unknown.
