Frankie Lons, Keyshia Cole’s biological mother, died of an overdose on Sunday after a long battle with addiction.
The singer’s brother, Sam, confirmed the news on Monday, telling TMZ that Lons relapsed on narcotics while celebrating her 61st birthday at her Oakland, Calif., home. According to the site, Lons had been on a “long, hard-fought journey to sobriety” and had celebrated 60 days sober in March 2020.
Cole reconciled with Lons and the rest of her biological family as she grew to success in the music industry, having been reared by family friends.
She was 61 years old.

Cole has yet to issue a public statement regarding her mother’s death, and her representative has yet to react to our request for comment.
In the past, the R&B singer has been frank about Lons’ difficulties with sobriety. In August 2018, Cole wrote on Instagram, “This was 2 1/2 years ago. Every time my mom relapse, it breaks my heart more than it’s already been broken.”
