Emilio Ballack, the son of former German player Michael Ballack, died in a quad-bike accident in Portugal on Thursday morning while on vacation.
At around 2 a.m. local time, an accident occurred at the Ballack family’s Villasdo Mar estate near Troia, which is just south of the capital Lisbon.
After the fire department and emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident but were unable to save Emilio Ballack’s life, the Portuguese TV channel TVI24 was the first to report the news of his death.
According to TVI24, the tragedy occurred when the quad clashed with him.
He is the second son of Michael Ballack. Emilio was born in 2002, a year after Louis, the oldest, and three years before Jordi, the youngest.
Emilio was 18 years old.
How Did Emilio Ballack Die?
Emilio was riding his bike on an uneven stretch of terrain when it rolled backward and landed on top of him, according to police.
Before medics could try to resuscitate him, firefighters had to pull him free of the wreck, but their attempts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead at the spot.
Chelsea, a previous club of Michael Ballack’s, has already expressed its sympathies to the Ballack family.
Chelsea said, “Everybody associated with Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Emilio Ballack at the terribly young age of 18”
“All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time.”
