On Tuesday, the teen’s mother heard gunshots and desperately tried to call her daughter, knowing she was out walking their family dog Peanut in the vicinity.
Around 9.30 p.m., the family heard scratching at their door and discovered Peanut sans the 16-year-old, according to local Fox affiliate KRIV.
She was 16 years old.
How Did Diamond Alvarez Die?
They scoured their southwest Houston neighborhood for Diamond Alvarez and found her a few blocks away, riddled with gunfire.
While identifying Diamond as the victim, the victim’s mother, Anna Machado, told KRIV, “My son found her. I tried CPR, and I couldn’t bring her back. I tried so hard to keep her alive. I couldn’t,”
Diamond died at the spot, according to his family, “in an open green space in their neighborhood where a makeshift memorial is sprouting.”
Tito Moczygemba Diamond’s stepfather, stated, “Whoever shot this girl 22 times in the back, they are cowards,”
Multiple gunshots were heard in the neighborhood, followed by the sound of tires squealing as a dark-colored vehicle drove away, according to witnesses.
The Houston Police Department was looking for security video that could help identify the car involved as of Wednesday night, but no suspect had been named in the case.
On social media, people of the community expressed their horror at Diamond’s death, with one person describing it as, “just sickening.”
A commenter stated, “I’m so heartbroken for her parents,”
They hoped that someone would come forward with information that would lead to her assailant, and they wrote about it, “Rip young lady… surely someone saw something!”
