Dawn Elberta Wells AKA Dawn Wells was an American actress, known on CBS sitcom Gilligan’s Island for her role as Mary Ann Summers. She was born on October 18, 1938, in Reno, Nevada, U.S.

Wells died in Los Angeles at the age of 82 on December 30, 2020, due to causes attributed to COVID-19 during the California pandemic.


On October 27, 1962, Wells married Larry Rosen, a talent agent.

The couple had no children and, in 1967, they were divorced.


She was 82 years old.


Wells has crowned Miss Nevada in 1959 and represented her state in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in the Miss America 1960 pageant. Wells consigned her original gingham blouse and shorts ensemble from her signature role for sale in 2005. Profiles in History auction house Beverly Hills sold it for $20,700.

In 2014, Wells released What Would Mary Ann Do? A Guide to Life, which she and Steve Stinson co-wrote. The book was published to coincide with Gilligan’s Island’s 50th anniversary.

Wells was appointed MeTV Network’s Marketing Ambassador in May 2016.

In January 2019, on the MeTV television network, she promoted the television series Gilligan’s Island.

Death Cause

Her publicist said she died Wednesday of causes connected with Covid-19. She was about 82.

Wells died peacefully in Los Angeles at a living home, publicist Harlan Boll said.
