What Happened Between Senator Ted Cruz And Clarissa Ward

Ward was photographed with a red scarf and blue top, with her arms uncovered, reporting live from Kabul, where the Taliban had taken control, on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Ward was then spotted reporting the next day wearing an Islamic veil, which is generally worn by Shiite women.

Her outfit change went viral because it depicts the brutality of life under Taliban rule. Ward said on Twitter that while she was in a private complex while reporting in her red scarf and blue top, she was on the streets the next day, which is why she donned the veil. Ward was then shown in a video declaring that the crowd in awe “chanting ‘death to America,’ but they seem friendly at the same time,” following her report on Monday. It’s very bizarre.”

Ted Cruz then proceeded to Twitter to retweet a video shared by right-wing conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec, calling her a Taliban cheerleader. Cruz tweeted, “Is there an enemy of America for whom @CNN WON’T cheerlead? (In mandatory burkas, no less),”

CNN reacted quickly to the incident and defended the journalist. CNN said, “Rather than running off to Cancun in tough times, @clarissaward is risking her life to tell the world what’s happening. That’s called bravery. Instead of RTing a conspiracy theorist’s misleading soundbite, perhaps your time would be better spent helping Americans in harm’s way,”
