Authorities say a Chicago police officer was murdered and another was critically injured in a shooting that occurred late Saturday night in the West Englewood area during a traffic check. His name and age are not yet known
Officers from the Chicago Police Department’s Community Safety Teams unit stopped a car in the 6300 block of South Bell Avenue, near West 63rd Street, at around 9 p.m. According to CPD officials, the officers were shot at some time during the engagement and sustained gunshot wounds.

After being shot, at least one of the suspects was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to FOX 32 in Chicago. The Sun-Times said that dozens of police officers were visible in the neighborhood shortly after the gunshot and that a police helicopter soared overhead.
