Zavion Davenport, better known by the stage name Chi Chi DeVayne, was an American drag queen and reality TV personality who got international attention on the eighth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars. She was born on September 24, 1985, in Shreveport, Louisiana, U.S.
DeVayne was originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. She said of her upbringing, “I was always a little performer. My uncle used to stage talent shows with all us cousins, and my mom saw something in me. She had me in gymnastics, and I was in a dance company in my twenties.” Growing up, she had a “hard-knock life”: Growing up, she had a “hard-knock life”: she kept a gun, got into trouble, and joined gangs.

DeVayne ‘s name for the drag came in part from the movie To To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (Chi Chi), and then DeVayne originated from Shreveport’s “legendary” DeVaynes. Her mothers at the drag are Kourtni DeVayne and Lady Phat Kat. DeVayne competed in RuPaul’s Drag Race the eighth season which began airing on March 7, 2016. James Michael Nichols of the Huffington Post reported “Chi-Chi was this season’s dark-horse, walking through the doors in the first episode in a garbage bag literally made dress.” DeVayne made it to the top four but was eliminated before Kim Chi, Naomi Smalls, and Bob the Drag Queen, who eventually took the crown. DeVayne stated the experience “everything changed in my life. Everything turned in a different direction. I was just like before, ‘What a good job I could get here in town, working in a factory.’ It’s crazy.”
DeVayne started working full time as a drag queen after featuring in season 8. The Star Theatre in Portland hosted one of her performances with Kennedy Davenport. She had previously worked for two 9-5 jobs to support herself at one of Shreveport’s only two gay bars. DeVayne likes to use different shades of purple in her drag makeup.
DeVayne appeared on the RuPaul podcast of RuPaul: What’s the Tee in 2016 with Michelle Visage. She was part of a November holiday tour called A Drag Queen Christmas the next year: the Nasty Show, along with Sasha Velour, Shea Coulee, Kim Chi, Latrice Royale, Farrah Moan, Naomi Smalls, and Eureka O’Hara. Chi-Chi was a part of the Max Emerson Drag Babies show, hosted by Bob the Drag Queen, in March 2018. She, alongside Peppermint and Shuga Cain, was a Drag Mentor.
Chi Chi DeVayne Health
DeVayne had been diagnosed with scleroderma in 2018. He was rushed into hospital on July 17, 2020, for scleroderma-related kidney failure. DeVayne shared an update on social media two days later saying “I let it go too long without going to the doctor and these are the consequences”, as well as expressing gratitude for the outpouring of fans and colleagues’ support. He said he was being treated with dialysis. He was re-admitted to the hospital later that year after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

DeVayne died at the age of 34 on 20th August 2020. Chi Chi told fans she had surgically installed catheters to her heart and kidneys before she became dialyzed.
She lived with scleroderma, a rare, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the immune system attacking the tissue under the skin, and surrounding internal organs and blood vessels, which can also cause tissue scarring and thickening.
