The American singer, artist, guitarist, business owner, and professional baseball player was Charley Frank Pride. He was born on March 18, 1934, in Sledge, Mississippi, U.S.

Pride died on December 12, 2020, of complications from COVID-19 in Dallas, Texas. He had been 86 years old.

While playing baseball in Memphis, Pride met his wife, Rozene. While Pride was on Christmas leave from Army basic training, they married in 1956 and had two sons, Kraig and Dion, and a daughter, Angela.

They were natives of Dallas, Texas. Kraig now goes by the name Carlton and as a performing artist, has followed his father’s footsteps somewhat. His band, Carlton Pride and Zion, formed in 1995 in San Marcos, Texas, and throughout the United States, they play a variety of reggae, funk, and soul music.


Charley Frank Pride was an American singer, guitarist, and guitar. His greatest musical success came in the early to mid-1970s, when after Elvis Presley he became the best-selling RCA Records star.

Pride had been inspired to enter the music industry by country stars such as Red Sovine and Red Foley when he was involved in baseball and was working towards this career. Pride visited Sun Studios in 1958, in Memphis, and recorded some songs. One song has survived on tape and has been released as part of a box set in the UK. The song is a slow walk called “Walkin’ (the Stroll)”

In 1994, Pride co-wrote Pride: The Charley Pride Story, his autobiography. He admits in this book that he has suffered from manic depression for years. He garnered 52 top-10 hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart during the peak years of his recording career (1966–87), 30 of which made it to the number one list, business owner, and professional baseball player.

He sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” on January 20, 2014, and opened for the Memphis Grizzlies at halftime, hosting their 12th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Uh, day. During a break in the match that was broadcast nationally on NBA TV and SportSouth, he was also interviewed.

Death Cause

According to CMT News and CBS Dallas, Charley Pride, the country music legend, has died, and the cause of death is complications of COVID-19.

Public relations agency 2911 Media reported that Pride died from complications linked to COVID-19 in Dallas, Texas on Dec. 12.
