Who are Champ and Major?
Major and Champ, President Joe Biden’s German Shepherd, is said to have returned to the White House. Champ and Major, Biden’s two dogs, were returned to Delaware earlier this month after the younger dog was engaged in aggressive behavior. Major had to undergo extra training after the three-year-old had a “biting incident.”

Following the incident at the White House, Major worked with a trainer at the Bidens’ home in Delaware, and the two German Shepherds returned to Washington.
The dogs were still getting used to their new surroundings at the White House, according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, “was surprised by an unfamiliar person and reacted in a way that resulted in a minor injury to the individual.”

President Joe Biden told ABC that Major was not sent to Delaware as a result of the incident, but rather because he and First Lady were traveling. George Stephanopoulos of ABC News posed the question to Biden earlier this month, “Is Major out of the dog house?”
Biden said, “The answer is yes, Major was a rescue pup. Major did not bite someone and penetrate the skin. The dog’s being trained now with our trainer at home in Delaware.”

The first shelter dog to live in the White House is Major. Champ, the Bidens’ older dog, has been with the family for more than ten years, having joined them shortly after Biden was named Barack Obama’s vice president-elect in December 2008. Major was introduced in November 2018, months before Biden announced his intention to run for president in 2020.
