How She Dies After Pulling Two Children Full Details
Villanueva and the good samaritan both died while the children were saved. At about 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, first responders called off their search for the night but restarted it at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 14.
A diving crew was dispatched to assist in the search for Villanueva. At 2:56 p.m. Monday, authorities discovered the body of a San Antonio man after a multi-agency search. Her body was discovered in the Guadalupe River in her hometown of Seguin, some 35 miles northeast of San Antonio, on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
According to law enforcement officials, she drowned while attempting to assist Villanueva in removing his two children and then Villanueva himself from the river, but the flood continued to sweep them downstream. Villanueva was reportedly spending Sunday with his three children on a river island that is known for swimming and tubing. Kendrick was also present, along with roughly 20 members of his family. Two of Villanueva’s sons were caught in the rapid stream around 5 p.m., and he dived into the water to save them.
Kendrick, who was with her family, pursued him and his children to assist them. Villanueva is said to have been able to grab one of his sons and pass him to Kendrick, who then passed the boy on to someone else.
However, when he tried the same approach with his other child, he found himself struggling against the river. Villaneuva and Kendrick both vanished near the FM 1117 bridge, prompting family on the island to call for assistance.
Seguin Fire Department, Sand Hills Volunteer Fire Department, McQueeney Fire Department, New Braunfels Dive Team, Guadalupe County Fire Marshal, Game Warden, DPS, and DPS Air Support, and the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search.
On Monday, Kendrick’s family and friends allegedly rushed to Facebook to express their grief. One family reportedly wrote, “She died saving lives.”
“What a beautiful soul. Now she will be watching over y’all. So sorry for y’all lose. Prayers to all.”
According to a spokesperson for the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, anyone participating in any type of water activity at any time of year must be aware of the dangers of the regions they are in.
He claimed a caution sign is posted near the river where Villanueva and his children were swimming, and that the region has seen previous water rescues.
