Carolyn Pawlenty is the mother of Derek Chauvin.
Disgraced On May 25, 2020, Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 and a half years in jail for the murder of George Floyd.
On Friday, June 25, the convicted murderer was sentenced to 270 months in prison and appeared in court with a shaven head.
She is 73 years old.
During Derek Chauvin’s Sentence, What Did Her Mother Carolyn Pawlenty Say?
Chauvin’s mother, Carolyn Pawlenty, spoke to the court for the first time during her son’s sentence.
Pawlenty lives in Peosta, Dubuque County, Iowa, according to Conan Daily. Robert Michael Chauvin, Chauvin’s father, and she divorced in November 1984. Carolyn married Leroy Pawlenty after divorcing Robert, according to Conan Daily.
Chauvin’s 73-year-old mother spoke briefly and publicly for the first time since her son’s arrest and conviction at his sentence hearing. She referred to her son as her “favorite son” and described him as a “calm, honorable, and selfless man.”
The birth of her son, according to Pawlenty, was the happiest time of her life.
The second was when she placed his police badge on him, she claimed. When Chauvin’s mother spoke on his behalf, she was moved to tears.
Pawlenty said, “My son is a good man. Derek always dedicated his life and time to the police department, even on his days off, he would call in to see if they needed help.
“The public will never know the loving and caring man he is, but his family does,”
“I’ve always supported him 100 percent in all his trials, Derek has played over and over in his head the vents on that day.”
Pawlenty added, “I’ve seen the toll it has taken on him, I believe a lengthy sentence will not serve Derek well. When you sentence my son, you will also be sentencing me.”
Pawlenty continues, “No matter where you go, where you are, I will always be there to visit you. I promise you I will stay strong, as we talked about, and I want you to do the same for me.
“Remember there is no stronger bond than a mother’s love. Remember you are my favorite son”
Derek Chauvin Charges
For placing his knee over Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes while he said “I can’t breathe” and fell limp, Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
Chauvin was given a 22-and-a-half-year sentence.
