According to authorities, a Florida woman named Brittni Muldrew driving a stolen vehicle was fatally shot by police after a confrontation on Monday night.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, Brittni Muldrew of Boca Raton was driving the automobile near Coconut Creek.
She was 36 years old.
Fatally Shot By Police
According to the newspaper, Coconut Creek police arrived at the scene of the shooting around 8:30 p.m.
WSVN stated that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Parkland, a nearby city. Muldrew and a passenger, identified as Levon Lopez, 49, of Boca Raton, were stopped in a retail complex by Coconut Creek police, according to the news station.
Muldrew allegedly reversed the car toward the policemen after they arrived. According to the Sun-Sentinel, two of the three officers fired their rifles at the vehicle, hitting Muldrew.
Muldrew was revived by the officers, but she died at the scene, according to the newspaper. Lopez was unharmed.
Phil Simone said to the WSVN, “I live on the back street over here, next street over, and I was over here with the dog (and) on the phone and all of a sudden, ‘Boom! Boom! Boom!”
“I said, ‘Those are firecrackers.’ I’m like, ‘No, those are gunshots.’ Then, I come walking up here, and here you guys are and telling me what’s going on.”
According to the Sun-Sentinel, three police officers were injured, but it was unclear how they were damaged. According to the newspaper, all three were released from a hospital on Tuesday morning.
According to WSVN, the two officers who fired their rifles have been placed on administrative leave.
According to the television station, a K-9 was also hurt and was being treated at an animal hospital.
According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office online booking records, Lopez was arrested on murder and grand theft auto charges and is being held in the Broward County Jail.
