When he appeared in the sixth season of the hit culinary competition, he was 11 and became a fan favorite and made it to the final 18.

Watkins listed fried chicken with mashed potatoes as his signature dish. He faced the chopping block during the fifth episode of the season, along with fellow contestant Gracie Howard, entitled “Recipe for Love.”

The MasterChef Junior alum also cooked at his family’s now-shuttered restaurant, Big Ben’s Bodacious Barbecue, Baker & Deli in Indiana, in addition to flaunting his culinary skills on television.

An incredibly rare soft tissue tumor that has affected only six individuals, including the MasterChef Junior contestant, is angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma.

A video offering him messages of support and love was shared back in August by Watkins’ fellow competitors and members of the MasterChef family.
