April Boy Regino was a Filipino singer who died at the age of 51 on November 29. The cause of Regino’s death has not been made public.

In the 1990s, Filipino musician April ‘Boy’ Regino popularized some of the novelty songs “Paano Ang Puso Ko”, “Umiiyak Ang Puso” and “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin” and is known for its trademark caps.


He was 51 years old.

Regino’s death comes six years after he retired after a battle with prostate cancer from show business. In 2009, Regino was first diagnosed with the illness. Regino said in 2015 that after a diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy, he had become blind in his left eye.

Regino sold 120,000 units of his album The Heart Is Crying in 1996 in his homeland, going triple platinum, according to Billboard Magazine.

The same article reported that in his homeland, Regino had come under criticism and was derogatorily referred to as “baduy,” a Filipino term meaning “tacky.”

In January 2014, Regino held his last interview. He was quoted by ABS-CBN as saying that after being given the all-clear about his diagnosis of prostate cancer, his doctor advised him to rest. He will miss playing for his fans, Regino said but his health was his priority.

In 2015, Regino released a new album, despite his apparent retirement.

Death Cause

According to a Facebook post from his younger brother, Vingo, and Jimmy, Regino died on the morning of 29 November 2020. He wrote, “This day is so sad.. my brother april boy is no more… vingo regino”
