Alfredo Eduardo Quintana Bravo aka Alfredo Quintana played for Porto and the Portuguese National Team as a Portuguese handball player. He was born on 20 March 1988 in Havana, Cuba.

He will play for Portugal in the European Men’s Handball Championship in 2020.

Top names in the handball sport have paid tribute to Alfredo Quintana, the Portuguese men’s national handball team goalkeeper, who died on Friday, 26 February at the age of 32.


He was 32 years old.


No public information was found about his wife. Some pictures of his wife are available from his Instagram. Looking at the pictures, it is understood that he was living a very happy life with his wife.

Quintana was great support for the national team of Portugal and a major reason for the selection boom in past tournaments. The Portuguese Olympic Committee recalled that in the coming weeks, after having been a key player in Portugal’s sixth-place finish in the 2020 European Championship and 10th place finish in the 2021 World Cup in Egypt, Quintana was included in the pre-Olympic tournament with the national team, the best results for the country in both competitions.

Alfredo Eduardo Quintana Bravo left the Caribbean team in 2011, signing with FC Porto, after playing for the Cuban national team in the 2009 World Cup in Croatia and the Pan American Championship in Chile in 2010.

He made his debut with the Portuguese national team in 2014 after being naturalized.

Death Cause

During a training session on February 22, 2021, he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was airlifted to So Joo Hospital, where he battled for his life.

Four days later, due to complications from a heart attack, he died in a hospital. A statement was released by his club, FC Porto, stating, “Our dearest Alfredo Quintana passed away today.

“You’ll always be remembered as one of ours. A true Dragon. May you Rest In Peace.”

They also said they would withdraw his jersey, number 1, in honor of him.
