The Canadian-American TV personality George Alexander Trebek was a game show host and actor. He was the host of Jeopardy’s syndicated game show! It also hosted a variety of other game shows after its revival in 1984, including The Wizard of Odds, Double Dare, High Rollers, Battlestars, Classic Focus, and To Say the Truth. He was born on July 22, 1940, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.

Education

Trebek attended and then attended the University of Ottawa at Sudbury High School (now Sudbury Secondary School).

In 1961, Trebek graduated with a degree in philosophy from the University of Ottawa. He was a member of the English Debating Society while a university student.

Career

In 1961, Trebek started his career working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation before completing his degree. “I went to school in the mornings and worked at times, according to Trebek; I did it all, replacing every announcer in every possible role at one time.”

He contracted Trebek to host Jeopardy! Until the year 2022. In various television shows, Trebek also made appearances in which he normally played himself. A Canadian national, he became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1998.

Trebek married Elaine Callei, a broadcaster, in 1974. The couple had no kids and separated in 1981, while Callie’s daughter Nicky was adopted by Trebek.

He married Jean Currivan, a New York real estate project manager, in 1990. They’ve got two kids: Matthew and Emily.

Death Cause

Alex Trebek died on Sunday from pancreatic cancer. He was about 80 years old.
