Alan Robert Murray was a sound editor from America. He was born in 1955.

He worked on 32 films directed by Clint Eastwood for more than 40 years, from ‘Escape From Alcatraz’ to ‘Richard Jewell.’

He has died at the age of 66. His family confirmed Murray’s passing through Kim Waugh, an executive with Warner Bros. Sound, where Murray has been based since 1979. He died on Wednesday, his family said.


He was 66 years old.

The couple has three children named Blu, Kevin, and Hailey. Three of whom are working in the film industry.


Murray has received ten Academy Awards nominations. In 2007, for his work on Letters from Iwo Jima, Murray received the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing (2005).

With Bub Asman, he shared both honors. Murray received his tenth nomination for Best Sound Editing for Joker at the 92nd Academy Awards, setting records for the category of sound editing.


Alan Robert Murray set a record with ten nominations to become the most-nominated sound editor for the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing category, surpassing Richard Hymns with nine nominations.

In 2015, for his work on American Sniper, Murray received his second Academy Award for Best Sound Editing (2014).

Death Cause

He died at 66 years of age on February 24, 2021. The cause of his death is not yet known.
